Emma is the most wonderful Border Collie in the world. Numerous were the times, where I was warned about purchasing a Border Collie - they were called "unreliable and crazy in the head". Emma is the absolute opposite: Loving, calm, intelligent, obedient - in short absolutely fabulous! And she is the policewoman of my dog 'pack'.
I have regretted many times that I haven't done anything serious with her since she was young. Her herding ability was tested, when she was 1½ years old, but she didn't show anything convincing. After this she did not see a sheep for 6 years. One day I brought all my dogs with me to Jette, her breeder. Just for the fun of it, we let her loose, while I was walking in the sheep pen, moving 7-8 sheep around. For less than a minute she jumped around, greeting the other people standing watching. Then she suddenly noticed the sheep... and I have never seen anything like it! She worked absolutely perfect in 100% balance - she was so beautiful! The owner is easily moved, so I was almost crying, standing there watching her...
It was a sight for the gods and I will never forget it.
Emma has not had her hips x-rayd, because I didn't plan to breed her - but I regret this so much. I am sure, she could have had some wonderful puppies.
Emma's breeder, Jette Friis-Jensen, has, ever since I purchased my first Icelandic Sheepdog from her in 1987, been my mentor and invaluable support. She is no doubt one the greatest dog experts in this country and no matter which problem, big or small, I have had, she has been there for me. I am so grateful to her!
